The diagonal screens are a little bit strange (for my tastes). What about 128x32 OLEDs instead?

We have lots of the 128x64 displays on order, so our Programmas will prolly use these, as they are not so cheap in larger numbers 
Personally, i like the 45 degree mounting style a lot, but it is a design question, tastes may differ, there is no right and no wrong .
We currently have the bigger problem, that fairlightiii is absent, and it would be best to have the LEDring boards re-designed with a possibility to attach FantomXRs new OLED carrier boards, but no one has the source files!
With a new board revision, the LEDrings could be adapted to be a bit smaller in diameter, then the 128x64px displays could optionally fit horizontally. As the labels are just “dumb” graphics files loaded, every user can decide on his preferred display mounting style by just swapping the graphics files on the SD card.

Apart from the bling, I wonder why the LED rings should be necessary if you have these displays anyways? Leave the LED rings unsoldered and place the displays horizontally between four encoders, with each corner displaying a small bar representing the current encoder value.
And I wonder why you don’t go with the new board of fairlightiii which has SMD LEDs on it and doesn’t require any soldering on the LED-side.
Sorry, we started building with boards we still had in stock and with a display orientation, that we liked 
Imho, the small OLEDs wont give the same overview as LEDrings, also missing bling is baaaad!!

I sure do like bling - the TPD module is a living manifest of this! 
BTW: I have a LRE left… if someone wants one. It has 3mm red leds on it and also the encoders, but three are missing. Encoders are not detented and without switch. I’d unplug the ICs and keep them for other projects… but this one is ready2go.
The LRE boards with pre-soldered SMD LEDs come with the slight baggage of having the LEDs almost flush with the PCB surface. On the other hand we have to contend with the height of the encoder body as well as that of the OLED sandwich.
There’s a good chance this too might look good, but until someone steps up with something based on those housed under an acrylic sheet we won’t know for sure. The 3mm LEDs at least have a bit of lit body that rises up a few mm from the PCB. It could also look cool with rectangular LEDs, but if we used those it’s no longer possible to fit the OLED in between. There’s always these pesky trade-offs
How about sending an email to fairlightiii? If he’s incommunicado we’d have to recreate the whole shebang. FYI - I really really don’t like Eagle - its ancient workflow totally frosts my balls. Maybe some recent version is better? :geek:
Meanwhile, there are some interesting hardware issues to look at, plus mapping the controls for a few synths :frantics:

Next planned steps:
* finalize the missing two LEDring boards (does not look bad, nearly done)
* wait for more displays (on the ship from china)
* move the 3v3 powersupply away from the STM32F4 - the onboard vreg is probably already close to overload - i always thought, my socks smell funny, but it might be the vreg instead
* start with a more complex synth programma config (looks like waldorf q, yamaha fs1r or kawai k5000, but the latter two are really complex)
* bling-enhance the bank switcher (superbanks and subbanks, scroll through graphical bank lists on two screens)

After some more tinkering*, the first demo is up - hope you enjoy it
(* when using more than 6 displays, a separate 3V3 regulator is necessary, as well as a proper 5V power supply is recommended - the USB connection alone may not be sufficient anymore. But of course, we have 1024 LEDs (multiplexed), a lot of displays and other stuff on there :-))

Haha, teh Juno All I say about the PSU is that I’m looking at some suitable MeanWell switcher. This is going to use a bit of power, both 5V and 3.3V. Seein this in motion is a great thing. I wanna return home to the solder station
