Antix MidiBox SID

Re: PowerSupply

Not really relevant as I made the first test with computer loudspeakers.

I heard no hum…only the classical SID noise.

I will advice you as I will test with a serious audio setup.

Re: PowerSupply

Cool, thanks!

Gotta check my filtering capacitators, i really suspect them, by now…

Re: PowerSupply

I used two low RS 2200uF 35 V Nichicon capacitors ( total of 4400 uF )

Re: PowerSupply

Thanks, I´ve only got one just ahead of the 78S05 - where have you put the second? In “series” with the first? Is more capacity necessary for larger transformers (3+A on the 9V ~ transformer output?)

How can the irregular 5V supply affect the SID output anyways?

I thought they were (only) 9V powered?

Thanks for your time, sorry for the many questions and have a great weekend!

Peter

Re: PowerSupply

SID powers

Vdd 9 / 12 V

Vcc 5 V

anyway the ground is common with core so probably 5 V can influence 9V

The caps are in parallel 2 x 2200uF ( 4400 uF )

usually I use “larger” capacitors for

" large " current power supply so I think that only 2200 uF it is not enough for 3Amps… when you start to need more amperes a little capacitor may cause ripple.

try enhancing capacitors value.

( to reduce RS use two caps instead of one bigger for example : two 2200uF instead of one 4700uF)

Antonio

Re: PowerSupply

Wow, thanks for the help Antonio! Will try that soon!

Have a great weekend and lots of joy with your MB6582

Best regards,

Peter

Re: PowerSupply

You are welcome

I hope that the hum disappeares

Have a nice weekend you to

Re: MB6582 Supply

Where can I find the wiring diagram?

Was the power supply already tested at a MB-6582?

Any suggestion to this?

Re: MB6582

Very nice

Re: MB6582

Cool ambience, as usual

Re: MB6582

Thanks Peter

I am seriously starting to think to a 6581 and red led version.

Re: MB6582

That would make for a great pair

Green and mean 8580

Red and dirty 6581

Also, 16 SIDs in parallel = geek heaven

Re: Fully stuffed

gratz :frantics:

Re: Fully stuffed

Nice.:sorcerer: Mine still needs another 4 SIDs, about 6 months after I built it. May I ask where you got those heatsinks from?

Re: Fully stuffed

Hi,

Also my hunt lasted several months.

At th beginning i had only three 8580.

The heatsink are from RS ( i dont remember the code but you can search 28 dip heatsink )and the double adesive tape is “AKASA Thermal Tape”

Re: Fully stuffed

Thanks Antix

Re: Fully stuffed

Great heatsinks!

Re: Fully stuffed

Thanks Peter,

Them have a nice shape and keep little warm our loved SIDs

( I noticed how actually the 8580 can become hot without heatsink :excl: )

Antonio

Re: Linear Supply

Nice! well done with PCB!
