there was a vivid discussion if a sample rate conversion of the synth part made up the ca. one semitone difference.
people at youtube fanatically started “proving” or “disproving” that, like if there was nothing worse in their lives than van halen playing a semitone down.
of course it still sounds awful, but i’d prefer a detuned van halen to… say many other musicians out there.
I’m aware of “the show must go on” principle… but does Van Halen have such a big ego that couldn’t stop the show and sort out what’s wrong? Don’t these guys do rehearsals, mic checks? I’d be mighty annoyed to pay for a concert when the musicians are this unprofessional.

Even if the show had gone on, there definitely should never have been any “massive inflatable SM58 humping” going on.

Although Helge’s (that’s the guy in TK’s video) style might be a little strange, he is actually a very good jazz musician. I saw him live, and his playing was great!
