First, just wanna say i have searched the forum for this topic, no luck (maybe you can do better :))
Ok, i have just bought 2 old C=64 and now i wanna build a synth and a seq. heres a few question (might as well put them together).
more like a request: I have a hard time figuring out what these machines really can do. It seems to me that the sound examples have been “fatted up” with logic or reaktor or something. It would be nice with some examples that says: 1-SID midibox and sequencer or something equal without anything else added.
should i build a midibox or FM - i want to use it mainly for a fat bassline and drums. (hmm, not sure you can answer this, but perhaps, you could give me your opinion)
hmmm, i had some more, but cant remember them, right now #1 seems must important to me
for “dry” SID sounds, check the live session MP3 of Julian: http://www.monome.de/ (58 MB…)
The MBFM can do very nice synthetic drums with extremely deep bases (so deep, that I have to reduce the frequency range below 63 Hz), also the modulation possibilities are very excotic (the big advantage of a synthesizer compared to a sampler).
MBSID can just do the typical SID drum sounds - all geeks will notice this immediately
But if you are looking for a TRxxx or natural drum replacement, both synths are not sufficient for your needs (I guess that this is what Kokoon wanted to say?)
yeah exacly. the SID drums are really cool but probably not for anyone. they probably would be considered by the majority as “bad quality” and non-realistic. but if you’re after that - this is the real thing.
