Idea for digital slider pot (sort of)

Hey, I’ve never seen a digital slider pot, but this concept on another forum could lead to a workable solution! (or maybe not!)

actually, has anyone seen the digital calipers, used by metal machinists (like me, in my previous working life!)) to measure sizes? I wonder how they get their absolute position? (I know that the earlier models of ‘mitutoyo’ branded ones didn’t have an absolute measurement, like an encoder… you had to set the zero reference with the zero button.

hmm… opens up many ideas… but I don’t have the resources to try them out!

BTW, I’m going to try out my LC with a bigger ps 2morrow! maybe MF’s will work better.

No idea… but those things cost kinda money, so having 8 or so of them could come very expensive.

PS: I got one, too. Lucky me. Cool little things!

My idea is a endless wheel with an encoder like Jog wheel.

I always thinked that’s an opto system …

… “seeing” the graduations (i dunno if this word in right …) engraved in the metal …

Hi again. I googled a little for these things. Here is whats up:

As those digital caliper (german: “Messschieber”?) are still patented, its not easy to get the whole info. BUT: Its measuring the distance with a capacity ( … whatever …). I´ve got no idea *what* capacity, but I could imagine the capacity from the two metall pieces, which is then digitalized and linearised. … or somehow … :stuck_out_tongue:

So, as its a capacity: No use for us… (or maybe???). However, building this for an MB would be … … crazy! (so I´m pretty sure somebody of you will try it out)  ;D

I hope not!!  I can see it though… zillions of questions aimed at Thorsten, on how to make it work! (I’m glad that man takes holidays a lot! ;)) maybe I shoulda keept my mouth :oshut :-X  ;)

What use would a digital slider have?

It seems that an analog slider, or even better Motorized Faders would handle most of what you would need done. What purpose would a digital slider have that the mentioned could not do already?

  For me it would eliminate the jitter problem, this has been bugging me for a couple of years  :( But my MB LC is behaving a lot better now that I upgraded to a 1.6A psu… though I seem to be the only one with this problem nowadays…?

 My brother just reminded me that I have a 10A 12V PSU sitting in the garage, which I had forgotten about, it’s a beast! but pretty old, so I hope it’s not too noisy… I’m gonna try it out though. (I bought it for only AU$10 at a garage sale!!)

 BTW, I think the fun would wear off pretty early in the development!!

out of interest, stanton use an optical fader in one of their dj mixers…
