WTB: MB6582 Window

Hi Shuriken,

thanks for your efforts!

Two questions:

  1. Two pieces? How are the connected together?

  2. Different colors? Colored Acrylic? Cool! Would it be possible to get a red one?

Bye,

Peter

I have asked, but i seem to remember you can join them with chloroform. They have a lot of colors. So both red en green should be possible.

Not sure if that will influence price. But i have asked that as well  .

100% coolness

I would be in for a red one (color code 6101, which is the only red transparent one), also it´s ok having to wait for more people

To get closer to 10 orders, i would take a second one, with color code 9421 (transparent grey)

Thanks!

I asked for a production sample first.

So i am making a drawing for it in illustrator now. I am a bit concerned on the measurments though. Wilba’s FPD file specifies 83mm x 31,20mm. Question is if i make the window exactly this size, will it fit? Or should we compensate a little bit. Any clues?

The office Mitutoyo slider concurs with those measurements on my front panel. The trick wrt tolerances here is that if we get the window top made to 82.95mm by 31.95mm we’ll end up with a piece of plastic that sloshes around. If the plastic is cut exact to boot, we can easily sand the panel cutout in case it’s just a hair-width too small.

Then again, I’m no mechanical engineer so the esteemed reader should feel free to enlighten us all if you’re in the know.

Well the current idea is to make the window out of two panels

The frontpanel is cut to size of the frontpanel. The back one is a bit bigger. So that you can use doublesided tape or glue to fit it. The two plates will be bonded together. This will make sanding it down a bit more difficult though.

Ahh, you’re seeing it like that. My idea was that any adjustment sanding should be done on the front panel hole - but that’s something we want to avoid if we can. Guess that we won’t have any sloshing around if one uses a bit of superglue magic. Instead we get grime buildup galore in the small crack between the plexi and metal…

I had some advice from Wilba about this. Checking now to see what the deviation of the machine is. Aiming for a snug fit. So that should be a no on the grime buildup

As Wilba said, it is possible to cut any transparent material (acrylics or glass) just roughly and glue it to the backside of the aluminum frontpanel.

I did exactly that using a slightly tinted anti-glare filter for a CRT. It looks great behind the black panel. Not as nice as a window with bevelled edges that sits flush with the panel, but it still looks tidy and professional.

Ofcourse, i actually have a piece of cd jewel case just cut up for that purpose. But then again, i put a lot of effort and money into this mb6582. I want to make it look at it best. And its only 8,50 euro.

Plus the jewel case plastic is brittle and scratches when someone looks at it the wrong way :hmm:

yes, pimping that MB6582 to the max developed into kind of an obsession, note to self… speak to psychatrist about that next time you´re on the couch.

Just to let you know, the company i am in contact with (http://www.frontplaten.net) agreed to make a free production sample for us. If that is to everybodies liking then i will start looking at some kind of bulk order.

That sounds great! Thanks for your efforts!

Mucho appreciated, thanks for taking the time to sort this! Kudos!

Great idea!

Richard is a nice guy, he made my acryl MB808 frontpanel, I can recommend his service!

Best Regards, Thorsten.

i would like to take one window as well…

regards

Just a little update: I have sent the design in last monday. So currently waiting for the production sample. Will post a bunch of pictures as soon as i receive it.

It seems somehow my e-mail slipped under the radar, but Richard is going to try and complete a sample this week. I’ll keep you guys posted.
