I am trying to program a simple circuit in which i can control software parameters with pots. I am trying to learn how to do this. I think it is not too much difficult to send midi data to the pc. But i don’t understand what the SysEx is about? Is it not possible to make a controller wihout sysex?
What i want to do is:
I am going to put for example 6 pots. And each pot sends different events on channel 1. Then i will open for example Reason and then use its midi learn function to attain the pots. Is this possible?
And I think when the program is closed then these parameter assignments will be lost i think. How can i store them?
Thank you for your help.
If these are too stupid questions i apologize but i am not an expert

Do you consider yourself a learner, already?
For staters http://www.ucapps.de/midibox64.html has a nice device that can send out MidiCC or Midi Continuous Controller messages.. this is probably what you were looking for.. Maybe http://www.midi.org can give you more that enough assistance on “do you need SysEx for controllers or not”.. and maybe, Just maybe manufacturer of the “Reason”, whatever thing that is, has a midi specification available for this product.
Oh, I forgot to mention - this forum has a search function.. works pretty good too.. you even might find the right answer there..
Reason will work with MIDI CC’s… So what you want is something like the MIDIBox64.
I strongly suggest a visit to this site: http://www.borg.com/~jglatt/. It ROCKS. I’ve been linking to this site every time I see someone new to MIDI for years now, It has everything from the basics to the most complex information. I hope it helps out
