With the current firmware the one u want is the Pic16F877-20/P, as stated - tho i think some of the other /# varitions might work…
The crystal is just another component thats needed…
The newer PIC18F452-I/P will be used for the forthcoming version of the MBHP - which is gonna be very nice…

i asked a few questions about the pics and got answers. the 877 and 877a are both good to use,

the others are prolly just different package and would prolly need a PCB re-layout…
also, if ur in northamerica, u can order samples by saying ur a student(which i am) and get them for free and i got the bankstick chip too (24aa256)
