SPI Interface (OSC + SD Card via J16)

Hi Guys,

I have got a question about the serial input / output pins on the J16 connector, as I am currently try to build a OSC interface for the Core32. Please find attached a comparison of the documents found on SmashTV’s and TK’s web site:

Please see the two pins marked in red, SI and SO are mixed up in one of the documents. Which version is correct ?

Both are correct: the serial input (SI) of the ENC28J60 chip has to be connected to the serial output (SO) of the core module, and vice versa.

Just read the notes under the J1 socket, I tried to make this very clear… they are partly also visible in your snapshot. :wink:

I should have paid more attention. But still confusing, to name them differently in the two documents…

I assume it is then the same logic with the SD Card, SO to SI and SI to SO, isn’t it ?

Output from one module = input to the other module, viewed from the modules´ perspective i´d say all is fine :slight_smile:

So if I connect both (osc and the sd card), that would mean that they will share SI, SO, Vs and Vd on J16. Is my understanding correct ?

Yes, they are wired up in parallel but use different signalling lines (RC1 vs RC2) for device selection.

So both modules serial outputs go into the input of the core, and the cores serial output goes into both modules inputs. But don´t ask me how this exactly works, I guess there can´t be SD card read accesses while OSC packets are received, or a polling strategy is used, or some other black magic :wink:
