SEQ4 Case Bulk Order 2012?

Will the people after a 19" case want a traditional square rack or something angled?

thanks for the link, that looks better than the case i have here.

i think traditional square will work. angled makes more sense in a desktop case.

Just to throw in my situation:

I have a SEQ v4 board and a CORE32. My SEQ board is mostly built, but I don’t have a panel or an enclosure.

I’m in for almost any case bulk order. I don’t really care whether it’s 17†or 19â€. In either case I would like a sloped enclosure , not just a flat rack.

Even though I have a STM 32 core, I recognize that the future is LPC, so I don’t mind if the case doesn’t fit my STM 32. I will gladly build an LPC Core and find another use for my STM.

My original order on the failed heidenrich bulk was for a natural aluminum case, which I had planned to compliment a natural anodized aluminum panel. But since I’m in North America, it seems the Heidenrich case is not going to be a viable option for me, so I would consider almost any aesthetic just to finish this project! Still, I have decided that I’m not going to order a panel (easy to get) until I have a case in my hands (hard to get). Once I have the case it will be easy to decide the panel colour scheme.

A case that supports the LPC should IMHO include an opening for its ethernet jack. Also, an elegant SD card solution should exist for this! I was sad that the LPC Core was introduced without a component footprint for an SD Card slot, leaving MIDIboxers to figure out (i.e. hack) a solution for an external card slot for every build. But … it is what it is, so the case (or a relevant rear-panel design) should include the means for a sourcable SD card socket.

This is all just my opinion, and I appreciate the efforts of everybody who is designing stuff. I would have created an enclosure myself but I have found myself going through an ugly separation/divorce, so realistically I don’t expect to get into the seruous DIY designing again until maybe mid-2013.

I’m in for a 19’’ LPC enclosure too.

I’ve counted 6 people interested in the 19’’ and 7 in the 17’'.

Aesthetics aside, wouldn’t the 19’’ suit both 17’’ and 19’’ users (isn’t the only difference just 5.1 of cm on the sides (‘B’) )?

 

In which case I would be willing to put an order through for the 19’’ LPC Heindereich case if people are interested and someone helps me with the design. Would the difference between a Core and an LPC be just an increase of the width (‘T’) of the case?

Well, organizing a bulk order for an existing design is no big deal. If someone can provide this, I’ll do the shipping and handling. Designing a case for the LPC17 is currently out of reach for me. A MB6582 and SEQ4 build plus an ongoing ALBS bulk order keeps me pretty occupied.

I don’t know, how orange_hand managed the rear panel, he used a Quad IIc_MIDI PCB instead of the Core32 onboard MIDI ports. Well, I’ll ask him next time we text.

The problem is that the LPC board is 10cm deep. So if you mount it to the back, the LCD connectors are touching the CS pcb. With lower hexbolts and not mounting it to the backpanel could work.

It might also be fixable by just making the panel at the front a little bit taller. By the look of things, there is room for the whole construction to change angle without changing the other panels.

Some time ago I tried to make the measurements to accommodate LPC core in the box but never finished that (I still have the A3 paper with http://www.heidenreich.de/english/products/group_06/variant_b/skizze_pultgroessen_variant_b.pdf printed in my laptop bag). Making the front slightly taller will probably cause the frontpanel height to change since it’s angled, maybe by a fraction but maybe enough already for the panel not to fit (and Heidenreich doesn’t use the panel size a manufacturing parameter, alas). So you would need to lift both H as well as H1.

 

The problem (for me, at least) was that http://www.ucapps.de/midibox_seq/mbseq_case_measures.pdf shows all the dimensions (e.g. 35,78mm from bottom to the front-side top screw but this doesn’t seem to be the H1 dimension (that seems to be till the front hinge top if I can say from the enclosure sketch). If I got it right you can’t re-create the order based on the sheet - you’re still missing the H1, the other (H, B, T) seem to be there assuming the ‘B’ doesn’t include the side panel thickness. But maybe TK can reveal the number and we could simply add 5mm to both H1 and H and have the job done…

I am well aware off the fact that he is using STM32 Core. Not only because of the fact that he got the Core32 board frome me :wink:. If you look at the pictures, i never ever see more then a blank back panel. You can also notice that he is using low hex distance bolts as his board sits lower then the panel profile. So that would make the picture a good example for an LPC17 solution.

 

But i agree on the fact that we need the exact dimensions based on the measurements that heindreich requires. I couldn’t figure it out from the pdf i found either. So my assumptions were based merely on the pictures orange_hand posted.

Hmm, the only problem is that Heidenreich page says H1 needs to be 45.0mm at least. Assuming TK’s box H1 was 45mm I’d say 50mm would be a safe bet. I’m also not sure till where is H measured. Anyway, we’re getting closer with the reverse-engineering :slight_smile:

One more remark - side panels are 3mm thick but with 1.5mm cutout. Since B includes the side panel thickness the 3mm (2* 1.5mm) should be added to front panel width to make B=437.5mm. And, that’s 17.22", not 17.5", btw :slight_smile:

There is no need to and you can’t do that anyway because the panel will be too small after increasing T.

Unfortunately the Heidenreich online tool, does not automatically adjust if you make H1 too tall. So i think someone needs to actually make a quote request to see if the calculations are ok.
