I thought it would be nice to gather up a list of other companies who send samples.
Being a student, My ambitious midibox projects are still on hold for cost reasons which is most frustrating (and I bet I’m not the only one in this situation!).
Not that I plan to build the whole thing with only samples (wouldnt be very honest), I have found loads of reusable trash.
So lets get to the point,
Who Has actually received samples of knobs, pots, buttons, anything? And where from?
I bet this info could put a smile on anybody’s face who is still tweeking his/her vsti’s with a bare Potentiometre or a knob made out of “babybell” skin … :P
building a midibox almost entirely from samples is possible (the IC’s at least). The rest of the parts costs around 10$(not including the LCD and the casing) in my country, that’s not too bad i think i can afford that:)

18F452 - www.microchip.com -> had this shipped to a friend in the US coz they don’t ship to my country, hoping he’ll ship it to me. Can anyone send me a couple? for free? if you have extras pls do, I’m a bit sloppy at electronics, I’ll probably fry a couple of these before I get a working box:) Im a medical student for Christ’s sakes! Im not supposed to know these stuff!
4051 - (MAX4051) www.maxim-ic.com they only offer 2 samples of each IC so I had to order 2 4051’s and 2 4051A’s to complete one AINX4 module. If I decide to build another
AINX4 module i guess im gonna have to buy them, they’re available here anyways. They are pin compatible (4051 and 4051A) and I think they will work (or will they? can anyone tell me?:)).
74HC165 , 74HC595 (for DINX4 and DOUT) - SN74HC165, SN74HC595 at texas instruments, www.ti.com . They allow you to order a max of 10 of each, so you get enough for 2 each of the modules with 2 of each chips to spare in case u blow one up:)
*all my IC’s are still in transit, but I think the fastest are the ones from TI. They ship via UPS. My package left the US on less than 24 hrs, probably over the Pacific right now ( I’m in Asia) I’m expecting them with the next 1 pr 2 days.
dont order the max165 from maxim they come with 18 pins not 16 and will at least require some modifications to your din module (if they work at all, i see no reason not to tho).
