sammichSID questions

Hi all,

i’m new on this forum.

I just have bought a used sammichSID with two 8580

I’ve a few questions:

  • power supply must be a 12V, isn’t it?

  • does exist a manual for this synth?

  • how to do a reset of the synth?

thanks!

philippe

Hi,

Welcome.

Try to read in the Wiki pages for the some info about sammichSID.

you will need to read the Midibox sidv2 User manual chapters, it’s what you need.

Janis

ok thanks

hi,

i’ve read all the manual and whouaaa, such a superb synth!(of course i play it and and yes it’s a superb synth^^)

bass sequencer, drum engine… very good idees. Only one pot but it is very intuitive!

i’ve a few questions:

  • there are two “trimpots screws” on the left side, one is for the screen, and what does the other?

  • my screen is not very bright, it is written in white (or black) and backlighted in blue, but it’s not enough bright… a solution?

  • it’s not mentionned on the manual what are the F1 F2 F3 buttons on the face on the sammcih sid, i think there are shortcuts (?)

thank you

philippe

  • Both are for the screen. One is contrast and the other is backlight. Don’t turn the backlight up too much or you’ll blow it out.

Hi,

From the Wiki http://www.midibox.org/dokuwiki/lib/exe/fetch.php?hash=6e29d6&media=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.mb6582.org%2FsammichSID%2FsammichSID_Build_Guide_v1_0.zip

Look at page 17, from here you can find some info about powering LCD backlight part.

Hi,

i don’t know if it’s a low or highpower backlight.

The guy who has set backlight doesn’t looked at the manual, so perhaps that’s why trimpot screw doesn’t work ?

Here are some pictures:

thank you for your help.

hi,

i’ve removed the resitance right side of the screen and backlight is more powerful

but why this resistance was here ???

hi,

resistance was to set a safe maximum value for backlight. You have now removed this safeguard. Perhaps replace with one of lower value

ok.

smokestacksproductions can you help me? my backlight isn’t bright enough…

please is it possible to put midi out in midi thru?

thx

ok.

If your screen still isnt bright enough, maybe you would like to replace it with a OLED module instead of LCD. They are very bright!

As for midi out and midi thru, why do you want to do this, are you trying to daisy chain multiple midi devices?

are you trying to daisy chain multiple midi devices?

yes

yes

OK, I’m sorry, but there is no software midi thru function. You will have to build a physical hardware midi thru port, which may be difficult to fit in a sammich

my backlight isn’t bright enough…

You can also to measure the trimmers resistance changes with the multimeter in the various screw possitions without applied voltage.

Janis

thx for your replies.

janis, why measure the trimmers resistance?

Hi,

I understood the screw position changes did not take it job. may be it not working properly. Not a good contact inside it or somesing else. Is P1 50K , marked 503 and is P2 10K, marked 103 ?

you need to regulate the both of screws for better result.
