This is the only available non-switchmode psu that I know. As you probably know, these old-school psus are/will be forbidden in Germany and Europe. I have to add tho, that mine only delivers 11.51V.

thanks guys!
hey param1,
that voltcraft psu is also part of my collection. are you happy with it? for me its still to much noise.. or lets say more than the normal noise you get from other synths!
hmmmm.. im not shure, i’ll do a recording of it this week and upload it! also i have to check which kind of sids iam using.. maybe im to picky and its in the normal range. :ahappy:
I think the PSU is fine. I use 8580 chips and I they emit the most noise of all my synths. I have no problem with it tho. In fact I own a noise sample collection.

Didn’t know that.. Why would they be (or going to be) forbidden? Because switchmode is more efficient? Or am I missing some point here?
So it looks like we’re all going to be energy efficient Makes sense, but let’s hope better switch-mode PSU’s will become more widely available for the special applications where the noise can be a problem.
All the other ones (i.e. regulated DC plugpack kind) I’ve used were noisy. I observed that if I “earthed” the negative output, the noise went away… but that’s a bit of a hack and possibly dangerous or something. So I went looking for switchmode PSUs that had an earth connection (i.e. 3-pin power socket). I bought the one linked above and it’s rock solid for sammichSID, not even a hint of noise, my transformer based regulated 12V DC plugpack is noisier than this one… but no good for sammichFM. Don’t ask me why. Maybe because it is earthed instead of a basic AC/AC transformer.
