resistor values interchangeable?

Hiya,

I just received my kits for the mbfm but in the core kit I have 2 x 1.2k resistors and 2x 1k resistors when both parts lists I have looked at state 3 x 1.2k and 1 x 1k, is this a problem or should I go out to my local store and buy a 1k resistor and throw the extra 1.2k resistor in the parts bin?

cheers

Paul

Edit…found a good tool for noobs like me http://www.the12volt.com/resistors/resistors.asp

normally they have a tolerance of about 10% so i think it’s about the same.

(someone please correct me if i’m wrong)

Is not 5% more like it? So a 1k standard resistor would range from 0.95k to 1.05k

Resistors are available in 20%, 10% 5% 1% and even less if you pay enough.

For digital circuits, pullups and stuff, accuracy doesn’t matter much.

For frequency dependent stuff (like an EQ) it can affect the cutoff frequency..

and for audio gain stuff, it can affect the gain..

most folks use 5% or 1% without problems.

The resistor in question was gold banded which I believe is 5%,anyhow I came down on the side of caution and went to maplins for a new 1k resistor…cost me more in petrol than it did for the part…sign of the times I suppose.

Anyhow thanks for chipping in guys, appreciate the help in here.
