Rack and pinion

This is just a while stab.  I’d like to get a rack and pinion such that the pinion connects to a potentiometer (there is a reason that I am not using a linear-potentimeter).  I’m struggling to source rack and pinion sets, particularly in the UK, can anyone help me out?

Thanks,

James

Try robotics and model/RC car suppliers.  There should be some nice small nylon parts from Tamiya that will do what you need.

Trade secret, huh?

These guys sell parts for swell (volume) and wah wah pedals for guitarists.

You should be able to find something suitable…

No  ;D.  The potentiometers will be set using organ swell shoes where precision is important, and also they should stay in position when not being set.  The rack and pinion method introduces more resistance which helps with both of these requirements.  If I could find linear potentiometers that have more resistance then I could be persuaded to go with these.

Ahh the whole story - always helpful

I wonder if you’ve considered counterweighting the pedal? Could be a bit less mechanicaly difficult…

Course, there’s always Lego Technic!

I was thinking lego technic. How about maccano? There used to be some nice ling racks and easily usable pinions in some of the sets.
