Currently I have only two SIDs (6581 & 8580) and I’m planning to build a MIDIbox with them. So I want to know if and how I can put keys into it.

Ahh you mean a keyboard?

You can use another Core module with DIN modules to be a MIDI keyboard, and then connect this to the Core which runs the MB-SID application.

Ah you mean, having your own Keys/Keyboard built into the midibox right?

It seems you must use a DIN module for the keys, and some custom code also.

Yes, I want to have my own keyboard in the MIDIbox. But it’s to difficult for me and it’s in English, too. :frowning:

EDIT: And where can I get keys? I don’t want to use keys from a toy keyboard.

If you have a look at the 2nd link in my first post, the guy uses an M-audio Oxygen Keyboard in that one.

Good question!

I havent seen them sold seperately before, so youll have to try google for that one.

Id say the easiest solution is just to buy a cheap keyboard like the oxygen though.

The other thing you need to work out is how to merge MIDI Out of the keyboard with other MIDI Out (i.e. from sequencer, PC) into the MB-SID MIDI In.

So you may need another Core, or at the very least, an IIC_MIDI module to connect MIDI keyboard, and then modify the MB-SID application to accept MIDI In from the IIC_MIDI’s MIDI In.

The 6581 i got by ebay. On the bottom of the chip stands KOREA AH111559 3. Is this a fake?

a GM5 is not suitable here (that’s a midi->usb interface only for connection to a computer). You could buy a cheap real(!) midi keyboard (i.e. not one of these “midi” keyboards they sell nowadays that has only an USB connection) and connect the midi out (internally) to the core.

SIDs were manufactured in various places all over the world, so you can’t tell anything from that info.

question is for what? As I understood your question you want to use the keyboard to play the MBSID, right? for that you only need to connect the keyboard’s midi out to the mbsid’s midi in. The gm5 is just a PC midi interface like e.g. a MidiSport Uno etc., you don’t need it to play the MBSID from a keyboard.

If you want to have an additional PC connection via the gm5, you’ll need to think about midi mergers etc.

The MBHP Core Module is the heart and brain of every MIDIbox. It holds the PIC microcontroller which runs MIOS and your MIDIbox application. It handles MIDI communication, it drives an LCD (or two), and it connects to all the other modules.
