I am currently looking for a PSU suitable for an AOUT module. I saw the bulk order for the Meanwell RPT-60B and wonder if this works well together with the AOUT:
The MeanWell looks like it will do the trick. You could add some extra big and small filter capacitors at the Aout input if you’re particular about switching noise.
AOUT only requires +12v, GND and -12v, +5V is delivered by the Core in the default configuration. Any PSU that delivers those voltages will work. If you choose a switching PSU like the Mean Well it is good practice to place some capacitors between the PSU and your project. Also mind the switching frequency.
The Mean Well has a separate +5v line that could be connected to the AOUT board, but then it would be wise not to connect the +5v from the Core to the AOUT.
ok, so you can supply the core32 as well as the AOUT with one PSU ? It is just important to connect the +5V for the AOUT either directly from the Meanwell or indirectly through the Core32, correct ?
If you supply the Core32 from the +5V rail of the meanwell, do you still need a voltage 5V regulator on the core board ?
Just in case weren’t finished… has anybody considered using a charge pump (i.e. a DC-DC step up converter) or similar to power the AOUT board? We’re talking 20 mA max for 2x TL074.
@mwidhalm: the datasheet says nothing about the switching frequency of that PSU (or at least I couldnt find it). Beware that it might be in the audio range.
@latigid on: if it would be possible to create -12v from +5v with your suggested solution, you still would need to power additional modules that you need the CV signals for. If those are in another box with a separate PSU it might work, I’m no expert. At least I would rather buy a known good psu than tinker with something else, I’ve had too many PSU related issues that put me off completely for a good while.

I’m about to use Recom RS-0512D in another project (being able to convert 5V to +/-12V), also, it’s being used in mistralXG design (and I assume successfully) that was discussed some time ago. Maybe definitely worth a try but it’s only up to 3W, which still should be plenty for few opamps.
From Mouser there are 0.5W and 1W solutions for 10,39 and 18,26€ respectively. 70 kHz switching frequency, which I would hope to be high enough to avoid problems, but I’m not sure! The Recom unit seems to have a higher switching frequency of 100 kHz or more, so it is probably better in that regard.
