What needs to be connected to the two pins on the core module… I’m really not sure about this part… do I only need a outlet with an external power supply (like most keyboards I’ve seen…) ?

I’m using 9 volt AC, 500ma wall-wart style transformers on my stuff (except the MF module, That one is a bit larger).
Seems to work fine, one of my proto core boards has been running over a month now with a 9vac on it.
BTW: A lot of these manufacturers use wall warts so that they can skip a lot of the UL listing requirements. UL testing/listing/compliance is very expensive, so many manufacturers use a UL listed transformer so the whole device does not have to be in compliance.
