When I built my first sid ( just one core with one sid 6581 and lcd with six buttons and an encoder!!!), I used a normal psu with 15V DC 1A…
7805 at the core was very hot, but with a heatsink, it was ok.
you can also use an AC psu…
If you find a c-64 psu in future, it will no problem to replace the first one.
