Newb: 8580 and 6581 as one box, How?

Hi,

Ive been reading the forums and looking for answer to my question. But no luck, soo.. heres my question:

How do I build a 2x SID module using a 8580 and a 6581 together? It really doesn’t explain it in any of the documentation I find on the website. All I can tell is the chips use different voltages. But could someone point me in the right direction or tell me how to set it up on here?

Thanks

Zach

Have you searched the forum?

With the C64 psu you can supply both SID modules as every SID has it`s own regulator.

thank you. So as far as I understand, its just a matter of different filter caps and regulators on the SID modules per which sid chip i use. Then using the PSU C64 schemo’s and it will all work fine on the SID module cause they have the regulators and on the CORE module side cause the PSU has 5volts (?) or regulators? Then, on the software side, I just have to edit a line of sysex to tell the module what SID chip its running and how to use it correctly. ? Is that everything? Thanks so much.

Right.  No regulator on the Core because the PSU already has one.

You don’t even have to do that because there are precompiled SysEx files for all configurations included in the MBSID application zip-file:

setup_8580_with_cs.syx

setup_8580_slave1.syx

setup_6581_with_cs.syx

setup_6581_slave1.syx

awesome. thank you very much.
