My SID is born!

Hi,

my SID has become alive and made it’s first sounds.  ;D ;D ;D Just needed to tell you all. 8)

Next step is to build a case.

Awesome! I just got the last major bug worked out of mine, thanks to the help of this forum (TK, especially). This is an amazing project to be a part of!

Best of luck,

Charles

Congratulations! Did everything go smoothly?

Thanks to both of you,

Did everything go smoothly?

Nearly  The lack of my soldering practice leaded to two sucked off soldering-pads on the core-module (I’ll never use a desoldering pump again. learned that for life). :o Needed three additional wires to patch this.

The second problem was a little misunderstanding of the optimized-psu-schematic, so I busted the regulator. In the schematic the pins of the 7809 are numbered 1,2,3 from left to right. In the datasheet of the 7809 (which I refered), pin 3 is the middle one. So I connected them the wrong way and grilled it. Good to have some spare parts.

Ouch, I better look out for that one when I start putting together mine - my local electronics place could only offer a 7809 in 100mA, and i’m not going mail-order for a single part!

Hi,

100mA? Should be ok for one SID, but more … I don’t know.

I’ll do a mailorder some parts end of the month at Reichelt. If you want I can send you a 7809.

Mike

It’s ok - my girlfriend’s going shopping in town tomorrow and there’s a maplin there, i’ll get her to get me a 2A version. A 78S09 should do the job shouldn’t it?

2A is more than enough. Should work.

Mike

2A is more than enough. Should work.

That’s what I thought - having no idea on the power draw of the whole thing I couldn’t be sure, but 2A sounds plenty big enough for a CORE, SID, DIN, DOUT and PLED, even if i chose to upgrade to 4 SIDs in the future.

The 7809 is used only for the 14 volts needed by the sid-module, so 1A should be enough even with 4 sids.
