MIdibox Seq4 is acting strange, display shows other values/characters

Hello,

 

First of all, I’m new here, I bought a MidiBox Seq 4 yesterday and I am very happy with it.  

But, this evening I switched on the midibox but saw other things in the display as the day before. 

Also starting up without the Sdcard gives the same result when booting.

Please check my pictures, which I have added.

The sequencer itself works, if you know which buttons to press it plays et cetera.

Does anyone know what is going on here?

Hi Wouter,

 

it looks like an issue with the cables between the LCDs and J15A/B of the core module.

 

What happens when you open the case, move the cables a little bit and reboot the device?

Well I just have opened the case, re-attached the cables at the displays and pcb, but still after rebooting, the displays are acting that strange.

Do you maybe have some other ideas what could be wrong?

I hate to say this, but this is one of the reasons that resale of MIDIBoxes was discouraged… You didn’t build it yourself and so you have no idea what could be wrong now. What is the extent of your electronics knowledge? Can you use a multimeter? Solder? Upload sysex via the MIOS terminal?

You have a point, but buying it, was the only way for me to get one. I’m not capable of building one myself, I have no experience with multimeters and soldering. Sysex is no problem for me.

I just cleaned the soldering on the two displays, but unfortunately that didn’t solve the scrambled display.

So I will return the midibox, so it can be fixed. Shit happens, but the guy who sold me the box is a cool guy and he will help me out.

I believe that this is related to an electrical problem.

 

Power might be the reason… how is the MIDIbox supplied? Via USB? I hope that you are using an USB hub with external PSU!

 

Or if it’s related to a short in the LCD cables or bad soldering work around LCD pins and J15A/B pins.

Let’s decode the displayed messages by the expected messages.

E.g. instead of “MIDIbox” we can read “MMLMbo|”

 

The hex code of MIDIbox is: 4d 49 44 49 62 6f 7c

And the hex code of the wrong message is: 4d 4d 4c 4d 62 6f 78

 

This looks like a problem between the D3 and D2 wire.

Hi there people

 

this midibox was my build…and the issue has been resolved

both displays are working fine …the problem was a connection in the flatcable of left display
