This is the MIDIbox SID made by Rio.

Note the special panel design - he just re-used the keyboard PCB of his canibalized C64 :slight_smile:

I love this! I was thinking of using a PCB but I hadnt even taken apart my keyboard to realize there was a big PCB under it!

the only thing stopping me from using this idea is the fact that this now has been done!!Ă‚  :-\

i cant tell from the detail in the photo, which IC is that next to the LCD?

DONT TELL ME THATS AN EXCHANGEABLE SID IC NEXT TO THE LCD!!!  :o

;D the chip on the frontpanel is a fake - He is radiator mascot of my MIDIBox SID.  Inside there are 2x MOS8580 and 2x MOS6581.

I used the Keyboard PCB, because i don’t have actually the money and the time for a  real design frontpanel. I looked around my room, searching for anything  to build a panel. Then i found the board under the C64 Chassies, and thought: “Whooops, that  should be enough for a real panel design” - I don’t need to buy something else.
