It seems like the gate signal level is a constant value and is not related to the incoming MIDI note velocity value. As such, my EG does not change level and change overall VCA volume based on incoming midi note velocity.

If I could get the gate level to change based on incoming midi note vel, I could achieve the same dynamic playing as in the midi realm.

Is there any way to change this behavior?

That’s the intended behaviour of a gate signal, it’s always on/off only. A gate is only meant for triggering external (analog) envelope generators or one-shot events like drum sounds. If you want a CV depending on the velocity, you’ll have to route velocity onto a normal AOUT channel.
