MB-6582 base pcb - Issues **FIXED**

Guys I need a hand troubleshooting my MB6582 base pcb.

I have done the suggested voltage and continuity tests in Wilba’s PCB build guide and everything seems fine BUT:

Uploading mb6582.hex to PIC0 takes forever ( >5000s ). Once finished MIOS 1.9g reboots and LCD stands in READY.

I see no errors of any kind on MIOS studio during the upload.

This is with PSU option A. R80 is in place.

Voltage readings without SIDs connected are as follows:

J3 : 5.16v

J25: 12.55v

C12: 8.97v

J1/2_SID1: 8.96v

SIDs: 8.96v

Cores: 5.15v

Also uploaded testtone to PIC0, no sound.

Any suggestions on where to look for what might be causing the slow transfer rates?

Thanks in advance.

What midi interface are you using? Is it on the black- or whitelist?

It’s an E-MU’s Xmidi 1x1 Tab. Under Windows 7 64.

Not in the black list. Should I add it there?

Thanks

Which means the upload didn’t work… Have you uploaded MIOS? If so, how long did that take? If it takes that long, there’s usually a problem somewhere that and you cannot really rely on the upload having worked.

Ok I tried re-uploading MIOS. Same transfer rates ( 0.02 Kb/s ). Took 835s. During upload LCD read “Rebooting MIOS”. Once upload was completed, LCD showed Boot screen and then READY.

Uploaded to PIC1 too with the same results as PIC0.

I have also updated the midi interface drivers but it didn’t help.

Did you source the parts yourself or buy a kit? Help us out with some more details here, please.

Did you install the E-MU Windows driver ?

I can’t remember where I found (very recently) that the Windows USB-Midi generic driver is broken when you want to do SYSEX transfers, and that the XMidi works fine when the E-MU drivers are installed.

Downloadable at http://www.emu.com/support/files/download2.asp?Centric=1009&Platform=1

Parts are from SmashTV’s kit. I have used both the generic and EMU’s drivers with the same result.

I will try to get to test with a different MIDI interface to rule that out and report back.

Thank you both for your help.

Good news. I tested with a different interface (M-Audio Midisport 2x2 ) and it worked right off the bat.

Updated white/black lists based on my experience.

Thanks everyone!

Glad you got it working! :frantics:
