OK, so I need a 16 pin cable for the LCD and 8 pin cables for connecting the base PCB to the CS PCB, preferrably the 100mil spacing cable Wilba used.
For the 16-pin LCD cable, you can buy new rainbow-coloured ribbon from SmashTV, but you can also reuse computer ribbon cables. Just snip off the ends and tear off a ribbon as wide as you need.
Also don’t forget the ribbon cable DIL headers.

You only need one, of the connectors, or IDC connectors as smash calls them on his site,

And youll solder the otherside of the cable to the pads on the LCD itself, because theres not enough room to use a connector.
If you look at the pic of the mb-6582 opened, youll see that all 16 of these solders pads are in a straight line, (not 2 lines)
I think this is the same for most 20x4 LCD’s, the one used in that mb-6582 is a Crystal Fontz LCD.
As for connecting the CS to the Base PCB, connectors are generally not used,
except in fussylizards case.
If youre not going to be removing both pcbs from each other then dont bother going to the trouble of using connectors.

Btw, did anyone use a helping hands or board vice to hold the PCBs in place while working on the mb-6582?
I dont know if you can get a board vice that size easily, id imagine it would be pretty expensive unless you DIY.

Wilba came up with the idea of using extra IC sockets for the Sids, that would mount on top of the ones that are soldered on the board.
Standard IC sockets have flimsy legs, just like the legs on an IC are flimsy.
So what he did is use premium IC sockets, which have much stronger legs/pins,
in between the existing sockets, and the Sids,
to prevent you breaking the pins of the Sid chip, everytime you insert or remove one.

I’m sort of being misquoted here - I used extra IC sockets in my prototype only temporarily, they weren’t “premium”, just normal dual wipe kind, and I only used them while I was developing the prototype, so I could easily remove and insert them again. I used them on the PICs too, again just for convenience. It’s not a long term setup I recommend - the extra sockets do not have as long or as thick a pin as an IC and so the grip is poor and it’s very easy to have bad contacts this way. Use only in the short term if you’re moving ICs around a lot, something which most builders won’t need to do unless there’s a problem getting one of the Core/SID modules working (i.e. troubleshooting by swapping ICs).
