Hi people, I’ve been looking at this project for a while, and luckily saw someone selling a load of boards and components secondhand. The boards I have are as follows:
MBHP_JDM_V2 (x1)
MBHP_DOUTX4_V2 (x2)
MBHP_DINX4_V2 (x3)
MBHP_CORE_V2 (x1) - half populated
MBHP_SID_V2 (x1) - half populated
I also have the following packages:
JDM_V2 (x1)
DINX_V2 (x2)
DOUTX_4_V2 (x3)
The half populated boards (particularly the SID one) appear to have been poorly soldered, and possibly need to be replaced since I have noticed some broken tracks on the board. I can either salvage the components, or attempt to bridge the broken tracks with the core of a telephone wire.
What are each of the modules for? And where can I download assembly instructions for each? I can only find data on the CORE module.
Also, are there any other boards that I may need? I presume I’ll need more SID boards if I want to increase polyphony.

Thanks for your timely response. I had asked on a modular synth DIY forum if there were any C64 SID modules I could incorporate into my modular, and was guided here, so I have been considering this project for a while. When I saw someone local selling it all cheap including PIC & LCD, I thought it would be a good start.
You should look for a 20x2 Display anyway, as these are recommended for a MB_SID.
20x2 is only the minimum LCD size. 20x4 is also supported with extra features (TK has put extra info in the 1st and 4th lines, the 2nd and 3rd lines are the same as you would see on a 20x2). Also, 40x2 is a good option if you want to see more parameters per “page”. (good if you are not building a full control surface with lots of buttons and knobs).
Alternatively a 2x16 LCD can be used (if costs do matter). This is no optimal solution, as the main page won’t be displayed completely anymore. Within menu pages only 4 instead of 5 parameters are visible the same time (page has to be scrolled to see the remaining parameters of the same page). An advantage of this variant is, that you would only need a single shift register (“DINX1”), to which the rotary encoder (2 pins), the selection buttons (4 pins), the menu button (1 pin) and the SHIFT button (1 pin) are connected.
