Hi there!
I’ve been trying for a couple of days to solve this problem, with no luck so far:
I build the JDM gizmo on vectorboard, every test/voltage measurement checks out fine except
when i click “Enable Data Out” … Nothing happens.
I’ve checked every damn connection systematically atleast couple of times :-/
Any suggestions as to what to look out for would be very welcome
I cannot say I had the same problem as you, but I can ofcoure make some suggestions to what the problem could be.
- you made some construction error (again just to make sure even more)
try drawing exactly what you see on the vector board and compare it to the schematic
also use a multimeter to check the resistance on all yur soldiered pads, just to make sure everything is connected
also check if there’s no short circuits
- broken wire
check the resistance between your connector and the vectorboard…maybe your prog cable is busted?
- Windows sucks
Maybe for some reason Windows is blocking your incoming data or is blocking IC prog?
- You blew up yur serial port?
you probably checked all of this…but just to make sure?..
my recomendation would be to build a PCB for this project. They are REALLY REALLY easy to make and you will have a higher chance of success if you build it on a PCB. For instructions on how to build your own PCB just click this link below:

my next recomendation would be to go back and double check your connections again. A large % of the time a faulty circuit is due to incorrect connections and/or loose solder joints not making good connection.
hope it helps some,
Shawn
