is the STM32F4 EOL?

Small form factor plus an extra memory option (MB-MEM module? :-)) sounds awesome!

Many greets!

Browsed a few different Disco boards. It seems that the more advanced members of the F4 family all come with touch screen LCDs and they cost up to 60€. Still, crypto engine, lots of RAM and SDRAM is there.

A smaller “voice card”/MIDI gadget CPU could be a nice addition though.

Agreed, while the bigger discos look nice, they have some functions (crypto and displays), that are not needed and they are a bit on the expensive side…

A small, expandable new core would allow to build even more specialized MIDIboxes for the same amount of $$$! :-).

For the RAM option, of course, it would be easiest to have onboard memory or a DDR controller close to the microcontroller… but, the memory itself probably would not need to be huge or superfast to access for most MIDIbox app usecases… The option to add one or two megabytes would most likely be sufficient and already offer cool new possibilities… As long as the memory access does not have the SD-card (write) access lag, even a low memory bandwidth would do, a “map-in” function would be probably easy to realize, you’d request a page of external ram and have it mapped into chip-internal fast ram…

Imho, this therefore might be realized e.g. with SPI-connected SRAM… the module linked below currently costs about 3 USD per 128KB of memory, which would totally fit the bill (and allow for a smaller core). Of course, as I am primarily a dreamer and not at all an EE, this might not be so easy to realize as it sounds

Sorry for the offtopic discussion, by the way!

Thorsten, something like?:

Unfortunately this product is also EOL. But the PCB is Open Source design.

i have tested the STM32F411xC/E with 512KBytes… and its not working… no flashing LED when pressing Black button, no connection to MIOS Studio ( I did not want to test it… i simply buyd the false Types …fucking 3 pieces…)

The F411 is not really in the same ball park. It’s the top of the entry line with less RAM and slower clock. The higher number may have fooled you but F407 is really something else. Too bad you bought 3 pieces. Hopefully you can get rid off them through evilbay.

But you are not the only one. In the past i bought an STM32F103RE with a different crystal speed. So even though being the same MCU it still did not work

found some originals at conrad.nl. I got a good deal: two pieces for €41 including shipping.  they give some kwantumkorting aka mengenrabatt aka volume discount for 2 pieces, at least on their .nl and .de

Fair enough i think, farnell has €8 shipping below €50,-

and in austria farnell only deliver to “Companys”… i will order @ conrad austria. thx

Just to summarize:

Old board Part number:   STM32F4DISCOVERY

New board Part number:  STM32F407G-DISC

STM32F407G

Mouser => availability .. ZERO, since some months

Didigey => availability .. ZERO .. since some months

Conrad .. ZERO

WattenRott .. ZERO

I hope we still find some or the next generation of the boards soon ..

Take this one

… 26 Weeks delivery .. autsch …

Andy aka latigid on has developed a new core based on the waveshare Core407V, afaik TK. has already successfully used it in his first prototype MBSEQv4+.
The new core PCBs should be publicly available somewhen in in springtime 2018!

Many greets,
Peter

.. now this is good news

: Sorry! You are right… damn it!

But yeah, looks like latigid on seems to have a solution for that.

Perfect … new Controllerboard for the Sequencer .. and I take the old one for other projects

I just created a design for a core by myself and ordered it. It’s downstripped (has just J8/9 + MicroSD-card reader on board) because I want to test the basic functionality of the circuit first. I’ll keep you posted if it runs fine  If the design works, it can be easily extended to other people needs.

The discovery board is now available again on mouser.
