I'm new, Would like to say hello and ask super simple questions!

Hello,

I’m Turnthetables, I’m a web developer that DJ’s as a hobby with an undying love of anything electronic. I’ve done my research and am getting super excited about making my own midi devices. I’m USA based, so I’d be getting my stuff from SmashTV. Here come the questions :smiley:

  1. I KNOW I’m going to need a core. So I’m thinking about getting the Core PCB with the PIC already burned, whats the difference in the PIC’s? I’m super interested in building Rastari’s Midi Scratch controller and he recommends the PIC18F4620, so I’m going to get the Core PCB with this PIC preburned. This is my first Midi device so I’m wondering should I bother with all that headers info? Just leave it blank right?

  2. ALL the components come in the package right? I just need to solder everything to the board? or do I need to purchase all the caps and whatnot?

3)I’m thinking about starting my midibox life by making a mb64e that is similar to an m-audio trigger finger.  This is doable correct? I just need to build the modules and setup pots / faders / buttons …

LAst question,

does anybody know if torq 1.07 fixed the midi bug?

How do I know what modules I need for the midibox64e? I’ve looked around the I’ve come to the conclusion that I need 1 x MBHP_CORE, 4 x MBHP_DINX4

4 x MBHP_DOUTX4, 1 x MBHP_LTC

only because thats what the kit says at mikes shop… Where else would I find this info? I looked in the wiki and at ucapps… nothing that I see…

Well what you *need* depends on what you want. I. e. each DINx4 gives you 32 input pins (32 buttons or 16 encoders or any mixture of that). So first you should figure out what you want to build (how many pots, encoders, buttons, …) then count the pins and then order the parts :wink:

All the info on how many of [input thingie] can be handled by [input thingie module] can be found on ucapps.

sure: http://www.ucapps.de/mbhp_din.html in the Download section there’s a DINx2 layout. You’ll need to etch it yourself though.
