Does anyone know how something like the LCD of a Technics receiver would work? It’s has an encoder that switches through the different audio inputs in the receiver. One comes up on the LCD as “TV” another “CD” etc etc. Where is the actual name values stored? Has anyone ever looked into changing this sort of thing? I’d really be interested to know how they work.
Depends on the system. For example on mine they are editable, so it’ll be stored in some kind of easily rewritable location (flash or sram or something) on yours they may be stored in the firmware as they are not editable. Could be pretty much anywhere, but in your case changing them would probably mean reburning the firmware for the system.
Okay, I guess yours is an option of the system. Ah well, I was hoping there’d be some how-tos somewhere. Haven’t found anything. One of these days…
There are probably some how-tos, but you would ultimately need to reverse-engineer the entire unit to make this change possible. You would at least need to know exactly what the configuration of your system is, on the component level.
