Encoder out of stepper

I found this page about converting step motor into encoder, and I wonder can it be used as high durable encoder for midibox aplications?

Funny idea to recycle a floppy disk drive!

Ha ha, now you can’t talk until someone says your name!  ;D

Is that how it goes in the USA and UK or is that just Australia?

Anyway, down under, whoever says his name first gets a punch in the arm!

hehehehehe

You might also want to check out the arcade game part suppliers for rotary controllers.

Great Idea!!

..now, Tim - Do you have any Arcade rotary controllers?  ;D ;D ;D

I figured out nobody tried to use stepper motor in midibox projects. any other sugestion for "nice feel durable encoder. If I menage to make my midibox work : ) I would like to make 2 bigger size jogs for NI Traktor.

hehe yes on my old coinop site www.coinoptech.com there is a schematic for an arkanoid controller, and www.happcontrols.com has all the parts and complete assemblies.

That old site of mine has not been updated in years, think of it as the digital ruins of past info sharing…

I have a 200W stepper motor in my stock. Just thought about to use it as a decoder. A bit oversized, may be…  ;D ;D ;D Hey, this forum is creating crazy ideas like hell… never seen this before. God bless the MIDIbox engineering force, an amazing community…  8)
