I started testing my Core and I am not sure if I should be frustrated…
I got smash tv’s PIC (loaded with MIOS) and did all the wire testing…
yet, I am not seeing anything on MIDI In.
Is this becuase I haven’t uploaded any applications? MIDI interface issues? (running over USB)
Help!
btw: how can I upload apps over a mac? MIOS Studio?

Well it is handy, because if your core midi is not working, you don’t have any other means of feedback… So how do you start to troubleshoot?
But it’s very unlikely that anything is wrong with the PIC itself when it is new from smash.

Nope. I did try MIOS studio’s debugging tool, though. That’s as far as I gone, but it seems MIOS Studio doesn’t recogniza my USB interface…

when all checks are ok your core pcb should be fine. I dont know if you just have smashs pic or a board of his too.

went through the troubleshooting page, though, all seems ok.
just downloaded snoize’s MIDI monitor, to check whether is an issue of seeing the activity more so than producing it.
On this point, however, having not connected any DINS, AINS, DOUTs, etc. I am really expecting a lot of random activity in the MIDI in monitor? (this is my working hypothesis)

If just the MIOS bootloader is on the pic you should see a continuing sysex string, the upload request. Random activity should happen when you loaded an application like MB64 and no ain etc is connected. This doesnt happen when you ground the inputs on the core. With an uploaded application just one upload request is sent when your box is powered on.

at this point I’m beginning to suspect the home-made USB interface I use (this guy I know did it) might have something to do with it, but will finish the lcd module first. Any experience with odd USB interfaces?
