Hello,
I have one of the CORE_R4D PCB’s from SMASH TV. I am confused about one thing.
Some of the jumper connector pads on the PCB have more holes than are needed for that jumper. For example, J10 is only 8 jumpers but there are 10 holes? Can I just not solder pins there or is there a reason for the extra holes?
Thanks
Those are speed holes, those make it go faster ;D (Simpsons joke)
I think you can do what you like with those. My guess is that it’s easier to just make a whole lot of 10pin DIL socketed cables than to make a different cable type for all the jumpers? Uhm… Anyone?
It’s difficult to get the connectors in 8 pins wide. 10 pins connectors are easy to get everywhere, so in order to make the connection less error prone (which two pins to leave open when connecting a 10 pin connector to an 8 pin DIL header??) it’s a good idea to provide two additional holes in the PCB - then you can simply solder in a 10 pin DIL header and there is no confusion (okay, you can still put on the connector the wrong way round - but you only have two choices instead of 4 ;D).
Best regards, ilmenator
