I can not see what is being used in the box for midi io. If the iic modules are being used it could be possible that the pic chips are in the wrong order. Each one should have its own id and that could be causing your numbering/assignment trouble.
It’s not that GW, the I2C address is done on the PCB, so the PICs respond to the datastream depending on the states of two pins.
Thanks Latigrid. I have not built the i2c pcb so was not sure if addressing could be altered or if the addressing was locked.
