C64 Power Supplies (110v/60hz version)

I don’t know if it would be of interest to anyone. But I found C64 supplies for ~5.00 USD. I think there is a minimum order with them though. It would probably have to be a group buy.

EDIT: I bit the bullet and contacted the guy. Ill post what comes of it.

EDIT by SmashTV: Added to subject to clear up mains voltage confusion.

i’ll keep my eye on this

this looks interesting, but it looks like it has 2 9vac sections instead of 1…

also, would it make sense to find a lower power psu?

hmmm time to measure current draw on mb-6582…

If my memory serves, these are later C64C supplies. I don’t think there are 2 9vac supplies in them. I’ll research it a bit more. Regardless, they would work beautifully with our midiboxen. I need to start a tally to get a pricing. I must state this though, I HAVE NO INTEREST IN HANDLING A GROUP BUY. They want a firm quantity before they set any pricing.

the description implies two 9vac sections:

RECOTON 9VAC/9VA & 9VAC/9VA & 5VDC/8.5W SET TOP POWER SUPPLY

Regardless, they would work beautifully with our midiboxen.

better not to waste an unused 9vac section.

or do you want to destroy the earth? *whack*

(it’s a joke, stryd, see the *whack*?)

i’m confused, why do you need a tally if you have no interest in a group buy?

Recoton Model C-1004 is a verified C64 supply. 9VAC+5VCD only. I don’t care what they listed, I’m going by other specs. I had one of these on one of my 64’s a long time ago.

And forget the tally. I let my curiosity get the better of me. If someone does decide to do a group buy and the price is good, Id be in for at least 5 myself.

Since I don’t have a power supply for my MB-6582 yet, I am very interested in this, assuming it is indeed the correct power supply.  I contacted the guy and asked for a quote on 100 of them…

I suggest Doug proceed with arranging a bulk order, instead of everyone annoying this guy with quotes for one.

Even with this recommendation for the C-1004, it’s best to check one before buying a lot. “Terminated in DIN type plug” sounds promising though and if I was in the U.S. I’d buy one to check… unfortunately they are no good to me here in Australia with 240V mains, even after swapping the power plug ;D

Also this link is for a C64 PSU, found it in the “COMPUTERS - COMMODORE PARTS & EQUIPMENT” section:

this will be interesting if this PS are quite new, mine, all very used, burn the fuse many times, and i’m shure, i’ve not shorts contacts on my board.. 8)

I’ve gotten the preliminary info back on these power supplies, and I think it will probably be worth doing a bulk order.  I am requesting more info about them - are they individually packaged or in bulk, what will the actual shipping cost be, etc.  I’m also trying to get a sample from them to make sure it’s what we need.

More info when I have it.

Happy holidays,

OK, I’m still waiting for the final info, but I wanted to let you guys know that I have a sample on the way to make sure it’s the one we need - I should have it next week.  Looks like these things are going to be about $4 each plus whatever shipping will be…

coolness, i’ll take 2 if it checks out…

Put me down for 1 too please, if and when…

I don’t think they’ll work in the UK… aren’t you guys on 240 volts?

I may be in for 2 but we still need the female DIN receptacle that seems to be available only in the c64s so I thought about replacing both male/female connectors with this:

Binder 678 series DIN male plug

Binder 687 series DIN female receptacle

4 contacts are enough, right?

Doug, would you organize a bulk buy for some of this connectors too?, or something less expensive if anyone finds some, this ones will cost about the same as the psu :frowning:

I was selling the DIN sockets with the first batch of PCBs. I still have a few left.

good shout Wilba, for some reason I assumed the poster was Europe Based - doh!

I was selling the DIN sockets with the first batch of PCBs. I still have a few left.

ok, that’s another option ;D

Alright, the other info I asked for has arrived.  Are you sitting down?  Shipping for 100 supplies is $320!

That means each supply with cost $7.20 plus shipping.  I think I can use Priority Mail, so that will be $8.95, and that will cover shipping for more than one supply.

I’ve set up a wiki page for the bulk order.  If you’re interested in joining this group buy, go to:

(EDIT: clarifying the shipping cost.)

Hey Wilba. Should people that didn’t get a MB 6582 pcb on the first run even look at this? I am just wondering if this will still be a needed part in addtion to smash’s base board kit? Or is some kind of power supply going to be included in the kits already?
