C64 or C64II / and: can i mix them in the SID

Hi there,

I got today my first C64.

I tought it is a C64II but it seems to be a C64.

Question:

It is named with commodore 64.

When it is a C64II, is this somewhere vieweable or do they look similar ?

Then a will get another one, a C64.

Can i mix in the SID C64 and C64II or do i have to build two of them ?

Hi Funky40,

have a look here: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/C64#Produzierte_Varianten (I know you speak german)

The C64C and C64G have the newer (8580) SID, the old one with dark keys the 6581.

You can mix them in a box but the SID-Modules are slightly different and the SIDs do sound different, too

Mike

also bear in mind the 6581 and the 8580 have different power requirements

yeah thanks,

that the chips are different i allready now.

This with the Powerrequirements is new for me, so i will see that i get the other chips also with Powerunit.

I think i didn’t formulated my Problem good:

my main Question is: Do i get today a C64 or a C64II

It was sold as: C64/C64II, so i thougt it is a C64II, but i think it is not

I didn’t planned to build a SID, but i saw the one from MTE read a bit here…

… and then, …my Finger and the Mouse ::slight_smile: , you know ? and eBay ofcourse.

First i build the MB-Seq.

But the Soundsamples from thorsten are great.

Soon i get the next chip, a 6581 one, so i have to surch now for 2 8580 chips.

That’s a C64II.

Mike

YES, cool…

thanks

Yeah, that’s a C64-II, also known as a C64C. It’s got an 8580 SID chip in it.
