hey DIYers, escpecialy SID users :

As you vampirize old C64, i did the same with some Atari ST from a friend to get the ym2149 chip but also the PSU (Power Source) from the computer.

here’s a (bad) picture :

Let me give you the details :

Input : 220/240V 50W

Output : - 5V , 3A

             - 12V, 1.6A  ;D

So you can have the power for the Core module AND the SID board in a single reliable package !

You only need a few screws …

does anyone have previous experience with that ?

Hi RAF,

that one looks like a switching power supply. I’m afraid to remember that these do not work because the circuit does not draw enough current from the PSU. Though it might be different if it supplies an all-stuffed 4 SID synth…

hi,

this alim doesn’t look like a “switching” one. If you compare with the PC ones. It is all a normal transformer with diode bridge, rectifier (one for +5v, and another for +12V) etc… I might be wrong nevertheless.

Okay,

I thought the transformer looked quite “small” - on the other hand, the Atari is a relatively small computer with few components (compared to today’s machines). I’d say you just try it out and tell us your results!
