78L05 on burner getting hot!

When I connect 2 9Volt batteries to the PIC burner the 78L05 voltage regulator is heating up. I suspect that there is a short-circuit somewhere? Can someone tell me in what region on the burner the problem could be located?

You are regulating 18 volts down to 5! It doesn’t surprise me that this generates heat. Why not try a battery or power supply that is closer to 5 volts?

No. I’m talking about the burner module which gets 18 Volts.

can u regulate the LM317 then?

did u check with and without the 74hc14?..i remember a similar issue, and some of my 74hc14 was broken

now, they both (lm317 and 78L05) get a bit warm but not hot on my board…

@sidmonster : there´s need of about 12-13V to burn pics , therefore that amount of volt.

sorry, he said 7805 and that’s a 5 volt reg, I’m not familiar with the pic burner…

what voltage are you getting at J2? Check and make sure +5 is not shorting to GND, it should not get that hot

I found the problem. There was a bad soldering on the board. I corrected it but now I have another problem. Only the yellow LED is on. I measure 12 V at J2 and I have alredy bought new 74HC14 ICs.
